An elderly woman's life was saved by an early morning visit to the bathroom when her electric blanket caught fire.
The 89-year-old returned to her bedroom in sheltered accommodation flat in Clarence Court, Bare Lane, Morecambe, around 4.40am, to find it filled with smoke coming from the bed.
When fire crews arrived, she had already doused the fire with a bowl of water but was suffering mild smoke inhalation. She was given oxygen and taken to the Royal Lancaster Infirmary.
