Gatorland Reopens Nov. 24, 2006
Gatorland is planning to reopen to the public Nov. 24, 2006 after a fire swept through the property and destroyed the 7,000-square-foot (650-square-meter) gift shop and executive offices on Nov. 6. The grand reopening will showcase a new entrance located at the southern end of the attraction. All exhibits and show areas will be open and operational. The park will be donating all proceeds earned on Nov. 24 to the Children's Burn Foundation to honor the men and women from the Fire & Rescue Stations who helped save the attraction. The accidental electrical fire was caused by faulty wiring in a heating element used in the python exhibit located on the back side of the structure. One dwarf crocodile, two pythons and two hatchling alligators died in the blaze. For more information, visit gatorland.com.
